Tastemaker Donnie Madia
Chicago native Donnie Madia is one of the city’s most acclaimed restaurateurs, responsible for the creation and operation of award- winning restaurants: Blackbird, Avec, Violet Hour, The Publican, Big Star, PQM, Nico Osteria and Dove’s Luncheonette.
Madia draws upon his personal experiences to give each of his restaurants a unique personality. His business acumen, attention to detail, style and ability to attract award-winning chefs was recognized by the James Beard Foundation through consecutive nominations for Outstanding Restaurateur in 2012 and 2013. In 2015, Madia won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurateur.
These ongoing projects keep him busy, which is why Donnie, his wife Estelle and 2-year-old son Bronson frequently use the Mariano’s deli and grill as a source for quick and healthy family meals at home.
