    All Kroger Health pharmacies and clinics will administer vaccine in accordance with jurisdiction-defined eligibility. Each of the 64 jurisdictions define their own allocation plan and priority.

    All three vaccines authorized in the United States are safe and effective. They cannot be compared because the vaccines have not been studied in head-to-head comparisons or trials. Additionally, the clinical trials for each vaccine occurred in different circumstances that may have influenced the trial outcomes like geography, points in time, and variant circulations. The FDA, CDC, and ACIP have not declared preference for one vaccine over another. The best vaccine is the first one available to you!

    Depending on the area, Kroger Health pharmacies and clinics will administer Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and/or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines. All three vaccines are safe and effective, and there is no preference for one product over another.

    The Johnson & Johnson vaccine only requires one dose to complete the vaccine series, but the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines require two doses. The first shot starts building protection and the second shot strengthens the immune response.

    Kroger Health pharmacies and clinics are trained and ready to administer the COVID-19 vaccines. As doses are allocated to us, we are administering in accordance with jurisdiction-defined eligibility.

    Each jurisdiction will progress through the following Phases, with additional tiering within some phases:

    • Phase 1A: limited doses available for persons in healthcare settings (primarily long-term care facilities)
    • Phase 1B: limited doses available for frontline essential workers (definition varies) & age 75 years and older
    • Phase 1C: limited doses available for essential workers, persons aged 65-74 years, and persons age 16-64 with high-risk medical conditions
    • Phase 2: large number of doses available for “critical population” defined as healthcare personnel, non-healthcare essential workers, adults with high-risk medical conditions, and people age 65 years and older
    • Phase 3: shift to routine vaccination strategy for remaining critical population and the general population
